About CA Non-residency Status
Hi guys, so I’m US Citizen and moved to CA when I was 6th grade and went to all elementary, middle, high school here. I’m transferring from CC to UCSD this year and UC classified me as non-resident, so I don’t receive any FAFSA or grants.
So my dad works here and pays all the taxes to CA (me too from part time job) and my mom is just housewife. But recently within a year my mom was out of CA, over 6 weeks for just vacation in her home country. Because of this, I was classified as non-resident. It says I can still treated as CA resident in tuition purpose but this means I don’t get any extra FAFSA grants and possibly limited for some scholarships.
I was wondering if anyone with similar situations was able to re-classified as CA residents.
I just feel like this is really unfair that how can I be classified as non resident due to my mom’s status who doesn’t work and pays all the taxes to CA with my dad.
