[OS] Wisp Relaunch: A dead-simple macOS scratchpad. ⌥Space to summon, type, Esc to dismiss.

A few months ago I shared Wisp here, a tiny scratchpad that lives in your menu bar. Many of you tried it and I've been improving it a lot since then.

Problem

A thought arrives while you're in the middle of something. Getting it down shouldn't mean opening an app, picking a folder and naming a note.

Wisp is a scratchpad that lives in your menu bar. Press ⌥Space from anywhere, type, press Esc, and you're back where you were. It's always the same page, it saves as you type, and everything lives in one plain markdown file on your Mac.

- One plain markdown file on your Mac that you can open with any app

- Save as you type, with version history so nothing is lost

- Built-in arithmetic operations, including units, percentages and money

- Remind me lines become notifications

- Markdown, checklists and find

- An Inbox to file a page away and start fresh

- Version history, so nothing is lost

- Sync through iCloud Drive, Dropbox or any folder

- Fonts, light and dark themes, and adjustable transparency

- Rebind shortcut keys etc

Comparison

- Apple Notes Quick Note is built in and syncs everywhere, but your words live inside the Notes app as rich text. Wisp is one plain .md file you can open with anything. Put it in iCloud Drive, Dropbox or Syncthing and it follows you to every Mac.

- Raycast Notes is the closest in spirit. Wisp is a standalone app that doesn't need a launcher, keeps your words in a file rather than in an app, and does sums and reminders right in the line you're typing.

Pricing

Free, with no paid tier, no account and no tracking. The only thing it asks the internet is whether there's an update. It's MIT-licensed open source.
