New to the app. What is the purpose of cards? How do I upgrade them? How can i get "play" cards?

Hello I don't understand the utility of cards. I thought that it was for the daily draft but here I can pick every player I want. Then I don't understand how to upgrade them (and why is it important), how to get rax bonuses from the card for every game, and what are the "play" cards and how can I get them.

Menzione d'onore nella categoria overrated per Arceus. Haxorus per il pokemon che è (grande dinosauro spaccaculi) dovrebbe stare sullo stesso livello di garchomp e tyranitar. E per di più non gli fanno una carta decente o SAR manco a pregarli.
