And Now for Something slightly Different: a Lovecraft-inspired geolocation mobile game
Hey all,
I’ve been building an indie project and wanted to share it with people who might actually get it.
It’s a location-based investigation game inspired by TRPG Call of Cthulhu, and the Arkham Horror boardgame.
Weird and, quite often eerie phenomena have been plaguing your city. They are investigated as individual cases. Inter-dimensional gates are spawning to cause supernatural disturbances.
You investigate these strange cases by going outside, to investigate real-world locations and attempt to seal the gates.
The goal is simple: Turn your daily stroll into a collective effort to fend off cosmic horrors.
What I have built:
- Character creation with skill allocation
- Generates gate-sealing missions based on your location
- Navigate through the mission by solving puzzle maps
- Dice-rolling skill checks during encounters
- Collect gate tokens and special items
- Skills and luck together determines the outcome of gate encounter
But being beta, the following shortcomings are expected:
- UI is unpolished (placeholders / AI-generated assets)
- Limited content variety so far
- Bugs, design flaws. Clunky mechanisms.
- Beta build currently is an .apk file for side-loading. Play Store Internal Testing and TestFlight for iOS will be available soon.
I’m starting a small beta test and want feedback from:
- Lovecraft / CoC fans
- People who like RPG systems
- Anyone who wants to be more active but needs a push
What I’m asking from you
- Try it out (free)
- Tell me where you got confused / bored / frustrated
- Suggest what you would love to have
What you will get
- Early access
- Influence on how the game evolves
- A permanent "First Investigators" badge exclusive for beta testers.

If this sounds interesting, I’d genuinely love your thoughts — even if it’s “this is a terrible idea” (that’s useful too).
Thanks 🙏
