Can't scratch my "Telephone Call From Istanbul" itch.
I've been a fan of waits casually for like a year now and the song that finally got old waits to click for me was Telephone Call From Istanbul, specifically the live recording from big time.
I am obsessed with this song. The live arrangement is off kilter and jaunty in all the right ways, but my favourite aspect of the song by far is the vocal. It is so energetic and textured and unique.
My problem is this, I love waits' music. I've listened to rain dogs, bone machine, big time and bad as me but NOTHING has ever come close to matching how much I love Telephone Call From Istanbul. In fact, I even listened to the studio version off of Frank's Wild Years and kind of hated it. I don't know, just spoiled by the live version I guess.
What would you guys suggest I listen to to quell my Telephone Call From Istanbul craving? Doesn't even have to be waits, just anything in a similar vane.
