"approved by students through the referendum"

I personally voted no so kinda sucked getting this email this morning and seeing the charge on the portal. some of you guys might say "its only 22.5 for the year" but man the economy is tough rn im saving every penny i get 🥀 plus im graduating this year i wont even be here for this when it's done 😭 my main point is I wish they gave more of a choice for people closer to finishing their degree (like just donate what you want instead of imposing a fixed fee for everyone) or at least lessened the amount for us.

to the future students who will get to experience the redeveloped mac hall tho, pls enjoy it on my behalf 💔 ik this is ultimately a good thing but im just a little bitter about it given the previous paragraph and wanted to vent a little bit lol

For a bit of context, I recently got a grade back for a class that I really enjoyed attending + aligns with what I want to pursue after graduating. My professor is really passionate and knowledgeable and I genuinely loved going to his class. I attended every lecture and frequented his office hours, and he even told me after the midterm season that I was doing quite well in the graded assessments. Like I could tell he was genuinely rooting for me to succeed.

Sadly I started getting really tired, burnt out, and stressed during the second half of the semester because of unexpected personal circumstances. I pushed myself as much as I could and ended up with a B+, which is not at all a bad grade, but considering that it's a really small, senior-level undergrad class, I still feel like I ended up lagging behind a lot of my peers (half of whom were consistently getting A-range grades). Mostly though, I feel disappointed in myself cause I think my professor really believed in me, and I might have let him down with how I did for the final exam and project 😭

For the profs out there, if you have had or if you had a student like me, is it often obvious that these students had something happen to affect their performance later on? What kind of advice and feedback would you give to help them improve? 😔🥀
