Small firm tax pros - if you could have one AI tool built for your firm beyond document intake, what would it be?
Hey all,
I'm working with a small team building AI tools specifically for small CPA firms (sub-50 employees). We're starting with a document intake/categorization product because that came up first when we talked to my brother's firm and a few others - chasing W-2s, organizing 1099s, matching this year against last year.
But I'd rather figure out what to build after that by hearing from the people who'd actually use it, not by guessing.
If you could have one additional AI tool built for your practice, what would it be? Some things I'm curious about, but please add whatever I'm missing:
- Tax research / code lookups
- Drafting client communication (missing-doc chasing, follow-ups, year-end nudges)
- Workpaper prep or review automation
- IRS notice response drafting
- Engagement letter / proposal generation
- Quarterly tax planning summaries for clients
- Something nobody's built yet?
Genuinely trying to build what small firms actually need rather than what's most fundable. Happy to share what I learn back here.
