2026 RZ Charging Issues
I've had my 2026 RZ 450e for a couple of weeks and I love a lot about it. But I only took it to a public charger the other day (was planning a longer trip the next day) to test out public chargers and ran into issues that scared me away. So far I've just been trickle charging in my garage.
As others posted (I did a search here a moment ago), the first charger I tried had a cable that could only barely reach if I pushed all the way to the curb. And then in the Lexus app wasn't updated with which chargers are available--I was at charger 2a for that location, but it only would let me pick 1a, 1b, and 2c (or whatever, but not 2a)--those were in use, even after refreshing a couple times. Then the line got backed up and I felt bad for those waiting so I thought I'd try another place.
Gas station two had 4 chargers, but 2 were broke and it also had a line so I went elsewhere.
A Chargepoint had an opening, but the wrong connector.
Another place (not sure if it was Chargepoint also or another ev company) also had the other plug type.
Finally got to another gas station with Tesla chargers and the first charger I couldn't get close enough to charge--a light pole wouldn't let me put my nose over the curb. But the second one did and in the Lexus app I was able to see the charger and charge.
I took a different car with me for my trip. I don't feel good about my 550 mile (each way) interstate-driving trip in a few weeks. I think I can be if I:
- Get the adapter for the Chargepoints. Is it just one other adapter that I'll need?
- Get some sort of extension to let me charge at any Tesla supercharger.
- Use the Tesla and Chargepoint apps.
Any other tips? Is this typical? Someone want to point me to a specific adapter and separately an extension that works well/good quality?
