Plane tickets

How far in advance have you bought your tickets? Are the plane tickets really running out as early as 6+ months before the flight?

I am looking to book next year in may (14th to 31st) and I checked KoreanAir app and most of the flights says they are already sold out or for the direct flight there is only 1 seat left. I think this is a marketing tactic to make you panic and buy the ticket now but I am also wondering if maybe I am too relaxed about planning my trip?

The earliest I wanted to book the tickets is december but now I'm really wondering if I should do it sooner?😅

Also what would you recommend: booking through Korean Air or booking through SkyScanner or other airlines? I'm aiming for a direct flight or a layover that has a night flight as I am traveling with a toddler.
