Is it too late for me to start studying for the GRE and apply to MPP programs (enroll Fall 2027)

I decided I want to do an MPP. The programs I am looking at require that I take the GRE. I hope to enroll in Fall 2027. I work full time at a policy nonprofit.

Do I have enough time to study for the GRE and score well if I take it in November? I’ll simultaneously be working on application essays. I know who to contact for rec letters and I’m certain they’ll say yes.

Should I go ahead or would it be better for me to wait until next cycle? Any tips on studying for the GRE? Thanks.

Need advice - uncertain about public policy career

Hello, I currently work as a policy professional at a housing/community development national nonprofit in DC. I like my job but there is certainly a career ceiling I am hitting. I’ve tried to apply to other higher-level jobs, but no luck so far.

Should I get a MPP in this market? Will it help advance me to senior and executive level roles? Michigan Ford seems appealing because of its social policy program.

I have also considered the JD. I’m interested in a career in policy advocacy and government/politics, and I’ve noticed that a lot of senior policy professionals have a law degree. But it seems like many law schools produce Big Law grads and the curriculum isn’t very public-interest oriented.

Any advice on what I should do next?
