[USA] Platinum/Smoke Gray Wool/Nylon blend $5.95 a yard
It's more wool then nylon, making it good for most garbing applications. It's not the prettiest color but it's light enough to take dye. At about $6 a yard, this should sell out quickly.
[USA] Nick of Time Linen/Cotton blend is $6.99 a yard today!!
nickoftimefabric.comThank you to all that helped me on Wednesday
I wanted to write a thank you to everyone who was amazingly kind on Wednesday. At about 11:00 am on Wednesday, I got a text message no one ever wants; my Mom was in a serious car accident and heading to the hospital. The teacher in the class I was in at the time very kindly gave me her number so I might be able to get the pendant I was making back at some point.
I then went to the bus stop (to get back to camp and break it down) and broke down. A very kind lady stopped and asked if I needed a hug and let me sob into her shoulder for a bit. THANK YOU SO MUCH! I was able to think a slight bit more clearly after that.
I managed to make a plan, ended up going to University Point and cancelling my classes for the next day. To those that were hoping to attend the class on how to research or on Venetian Architecture, I am so sorry. I was honestly hoping to be able to share some of my internet research knowledge and my photos sprinkled with some research photos of architecture in Veneto outside of Venice proper. However, the moment I got that text, I knew there was no way I could stay on site. Thankfully, the lady at University Point was able to immediately cancel everything and help relieve that one worry from my mind. ( I had a lot planned to do at Pennsic still and was fretting over having to get things and get things cancelled.)
After that, I went to the Watch to see if they could just take me back up to my camp site. There, there were several kind people. The lady manning the desk at the Watch was amazing. I'm sure I was a right mess at that point. She gave me a cold water and told me to make sure to breath for now and not to neglect myself while I'm helping to look after my Mom. She also managed to call someone immediately to take me up.
Thank you to the gentleman who took me up to my campsite as well. He was patient as I gave directions and dropped me off right at my tent.
I managed to take everything down fairly quickly - only leaving site to pick up the trailer from uhaul early- but it still took time. Thank you to the neighboring camp who offered me water and helped me to put my tent in the trailer right before it started to rain. You guys were amazing!
I did get to see my Mom yesterday (I didn't get home until 1 am and then I had to unload everything from the trailer before taking it back and zooming down to the hospital she was in; another four hours from my house!). She can talk well but she did have a stroke while driving. Her left side has lost a lot of function. My siblings and I are trying to wait for a full doctor's report before we make plans.
Again, thank you to all that helped! May God bless you and I hope to see everyone next year.
Periodish looking rugs at Five Below $15USD
Yes, it's pale gules and argent, which isn't for everyone but this is a 4' by 6' WASHABLE rug which makes it perfect for Pennsic. The design is pretty period. Having a rug under your bare feet in the morning is a luxury you'll want.
Up to 60% of medieval texts and 95% of manuscripts have vanished, study finds
Looks like a lot of speculation but interesting to think about.
{USA} Nick of Time $6.99 Linen/Cotton blend
They only have "mourning" colors on sale. However, the white linen blend does take dye pretty well. The lavender is beautiful in person and I may have a dress out of it already. 🙂
I'm about to use some of the 9oz I bought in a previous sale to make a pair of bodies. It is also going into a few new gown bodices.
Less than three weeks until Pennsic Starts!!!
It looks like the heat dome is moving westward but it is still a good idea to pack both the super hot summer gear and a couple of "winter" gear pieces. What is summer gear and why the heck pack winter gear at all?
Summer Gear
You want something that will be long, loose, and light. This means you need your arms and legs covered. The sun beating down directly on your skin is going to make you much hotter than wearing a loose linen tunic. There is a reason that people in desert climates cover up - the sun is your enemy. Hide from it. (Plus, lobster isn't a good look for anyone.)
Wear natural fabrics as much as possible. While that fabulous polyester brocade is a period correct design, you do not want it on a hot day. You will melt and you will give over to heat exhaustion. Natural fabrics like linen, cotton (period!), and lightweight wool are your friends. Plus, you won't have to worry about a stray campfire spark melting your garment on to your skin - most natural fibers are self extinguishing.
Hats are your friends. Parasols are period. If you can't carry your shade with you, don't stay out in the sun for long. Even if you are dressed in long, light, loose layers, the sun beating directly on your head will make you hotter than being in the shade.
Fans are period. Most fans were similar to the African circular ones, honestly. They are amazing in the heat.
Winter Gear
Here, a polyester fleece is actually okay, as long as you stay away from the fire. You will want a cloak, a cape, or a coat. As hot as Pennsic can get, it can also get cold. I personally have seen ice form on a bucket at Pennsic.
One or two velvet outfits or heavier wool outfits will be something you need. Again, it will get cold and it may get cold early. Blue isn't a good color for anyone to be anymore than lobster red is.
Sunscreen only goes so far. It also needs to be reapplied every hour. Most people simply aren't that diligent and we will all be outside all the time, every day, all day, for two weeks. Just wear the lightweight linen tunic with the long sleeves - which is going to provide you all day protection.
And bring your cloak.

I received a spambot comment from a registered account. I had posted my longest chapter yet (15,000+ words) and was excited to see a new commenter only to immediately realize it was a new to me spambot comment.
>Your introduction is so suspenseful! In part four of Lofty and the Lowly after the Hobbit and before the Lord of the Rings and Tauriel, there is so much for her to work through with everything going on around her. This is such an awesome story of an elf who had everything taken away in the official lore only to rebuild her life in a new way. The tag Fëanorian Tauriel shows that everything about her is changed with her pride and temper, unwilling to accept that which is supposed to happen. Good Parent Thranduil with Protective Thranduil means that this story takes a moment with the Elvenking learning something from having lost his wife and almost losing his son. It's easy to imagine this becoming scenes from a c0mic with Tauriel standing around in Mirkwood unsure what to do next, while Thranduil stands looking at her like she isn't the one he knew and then Glorfindel showing up due to a death in the beta. As a c0mic and manga artist, this story needs to be drawn with stubborn characters refusing to give in to anything. Lemme know if you're interested, >Disc0rd:[redacted]
Yeah, so what the bot did is just rip from the additional tags and use AI to decipher what they mean, and then make a comment. I don't think you need to be a Tolkien fan to figure out that "No Beta - we die like Glorfindel" doesn't mean that someone named Beta dies and Glorfindel shows up to save the day.
So, I made an Abuse report at 6:39 AM my time. By 6:56 AM, one of the lovely Volunteers contacted me to say that is was spam and it has been taken down.
That was QUICK! I'm really impressed. So, thank you for dealing with the spambot quickly. I'm glad that, at least this one won't be able to get someone's hopes up at having a comment only to have a crushing blow when they see it's another spam comment - and this time, by a registered user.
