1 MONTH UPDATE: OCD & SebDerm (SeboPsor)

1st post

2nd post (diagnoses update)

Hello, I'm back after a month, so here's an update: SeboPsoriasis

MCT Oil did wonders for me! It made my flakes softer and kept my scalp (and ears!) feeling hydrated. I still have a picking problem, though. I just can't let it go. 😭 I'm still on the lookout for a good fidget toy to keep me preoccupied.

I'm constantly on the lookout for food triggers. I found out that spicy food doesn't cause flare-ups, and that's a good thing because I looooove spicy food! ☺️ My triggers seem to be Coca-Cola (even the Zero Sugar one) and oily food. I recently had a gout flare-up, and I stopped taking my DM2 medications while I was taking NSAIDs for it. I noticed that having uncontrolled blood sugar was a major cause of my flare-ups.

Here's what I include in my daily routine:

- Vitamin D 10,000 IU

- Probiotic tablet

- Vitamin C

- Vitamin B12

------

As for my scalp routine:

- During the first month, I religiously applied MCT Oil C8 every night and washed it off the following morning.

- Mon/Wed/Fri/Sun: I wash with baby shampoo, followed by coal tar shampoo.

- Tue/Thu/Sat: I wash with Selsun Gold 2.5%.

- I apply a thin layer of MCT Oil C8 to the driest areas, which are my temples and on/behind my ears.

-----

Routine when I have a major flare-up:

- If there's a major flare-up, I resort to Clobetasol in the mornings only.

- At night, I apply Salicylic Acid 10%, let it sit for a few hours, then follow it with MCT Oil C8 and let it marinate. 😅

- A few hours later, I wash with lukewarm water and only use conditioner. I let the conditioner sit for 5 minutes, then scrub with my scalp massager. No other shampoo applied, just the conditioner ☺️

-----

I rarely use Salicylic Acid because it's so concentrated and stings like a mf hahaha 😅

I still have a long way to go...

I'm stressed out about this. I haven't been back to a derma since my initial appointment. I'm still hoping that I don't have psoriasis. 😔 I obsess over it, and it's taking a toll on my mental health. I'm too young to potentially have this autoimmune disease. 🥺

I know that gut health and keeping my blood sugar controlled are part of what I need to focus on to get this better. I just wish I could get over this faster.

Let me know your thoughts and any other tips, especially for dealing with picking. ☺️

UPDATE: OCD & SebDerm (SeboPsoriasis)

Previous post: https://www.reddit.com/r/SebDerm/s/xYypjMtG8k

I HAVE AN UPDATE!!!

I just got home from my dermatologist appointment, and the diagnosis is SeboPsoriasis (sebderm + psoriasis).

Honestly, though... I left feeling pretty disappointed with how the appointment went. The doctor didn't even examine my scalp, not even once. He didn't touch it or take a closer look. He just looked at me from his chair. 🙃

He asked if I had it anywhere else on my body. I said no, just my scalp. I also told him I've had it since I was a teenager, but it's never been this severe before.

He then said there might be something else going on internally. I told him about my medical history (that I have Type 2 Diabetes and fatty liver) and I even brought my recent blood work with me. But he never even looked at it. 🫠

And guess what? He prescribed me the exact same treatment my GP already gave me: ketoconazole + zinc shampoo and a topical steroid. 🙃🙃🙃

On a happier note, I tried applying MCT C8 oil to my scalp today (1st day everrrr) and BOYYYYY... it felt SOOOOO GOOD 😭 The flakes were literally falling off on their own! For the first time in forever, my scalp actually feels moisturized. 😂 It's not tight anymore, and it doesn't sting at all.

I'm feeling really hopeful about this, and honestly... I might just say eff it to dermatologists for now. 😂 I'll post another update in about two weeks to let you all know if things improve.

And lastly, thank you so much to everyone who left tips, shared your experiences, and encouraged me in the comments. I seriously appreciate every single one of you. I owe you guys so much. 🥹🫶

OCD, Seb Derm and the struggle of living in a tropical country

I've been dealing with mental illnesses for years, and OCD is one of my diagnoses. One of my biggest struggles is compulsively picking at my scalp (TW: see image), which definitely doesn't help my skin heal.

The last year 3 years, my scalp was still somewhat manageable. I washed my hair every day with shampoo and conditioner.

(See image below) This year, my flare-ups became so much worse. I went to a GP, and she diagnosed me with SD (sebderm). I also have sebderm on my outer ears, which honestly makes me feel really self-conscious.

I've been rotating ketoconazole + zinc shampoo and Selsun Blue, and I still wash my hair every day. It helped reduce the flaking, and once it settled down, my GP prescribed a topical steroid. My scalp looked great while I was using it, but as soon as I finished the tube, the flare-up came back.

I live in the Philippines, where it's hot and humid all year, so skipping daily hair washes isn't really an option for me because my scalp gets so sticky and uncomfortable. I already ordered MCT-C8 (locally made product, not bulletproof) and I'm hoping it might help.

At this point, I know sebderm is something I'll probably have to manage long-term. I'm just exhausted. I feel embarrassed walking around with red patches on my hairline, and having it on my ears makes me even more ashamed. Some days it really affects my confidence.

Has anyone else dealt with sebderm alongside OCD or compulsive scalp picking? I already did my nails so I can't feel the satiafaction of picking. Did anything help break the cycle or keep flare-ups under control? I'd really appreciate any advice, product recommendations from Shopee or Lazada...
