Shout-out to the many, many Boulderites who gave up their personal fireworks this year
I had to make this post to support all of those many Boulderites who did the right thing this year.
Yes, there were a few exceptions--no community is perfect, there are always a few selfish and/or destructive people.
But in south Boulder, I heard only a very few fireworks this year...it was really just a tiny fraction of the normal craziness every year.
If I had to estimate, I would say that I heard about 1/100th of the usual pop-pop boom.
(Ten years ago, the fireworks started 5-6 days before the 4th, escalating every night, and on the 4th itself no one ever got any sleep.)
And my neighbor, who usually comes back from Wyoming with a pickup truck stuffed full of heavy artillery (I swear the guy must know an arms dealer), settled for blasting classic rock this year.
We need to recognize and appreciate that reducing fireworks this much was a real accomplishment.
So, to the parents and to the kids who showed restraint this year: a genuine thanks.
(and a shout-out to the BPD, too, for keeping an eye on things.)
