Sometimes it’s not about precision

I used to use a fingerprint reader with Windows Hello, which unfortunately wasn’t supported by fprint, so this week I picked up a supported model - a U.are.U 4500. I was pleasantly surprised to read in a recent post that fingerprint reader auto-configuration was added, so all it took was sudo chwd -a and it was ready to go!

I did have to manually add it to polkit for gui password prompts, but chwd automatically set it up for login and terminal - both worked immediately after registering my prints.

Really happy to have this for login, elevated commands and my password manager. It was the final missing piece after switching from Windows in January!

Edit: tip for dual-booters, this reader doesn’t work with Hello out of the box, it needs this driver.
