Chair re-caning

I picked up this Thonet Austrian bentwood no56 chair for free with a load of other furniture. The cane is broken and I got quoted £150 from one restorer and £350 from another so im thinking of doing it myself, anyone done this and have tips for having a go at it? I know im going to need plenty of patience.

Future generations

How do we find the next generation of people that are going to carry on woodworking/restoring that will carry this profession on? Im sitting down this morning thinking of ideas and have lots but wonder what you all think can be done to resolve the issue that I see as a dying art. Is it a concentration attention span problem or something more deep rooted in getting the next generation of people involved in the trade. I would love to find people to teach but can I find them? Do they want to listen? No to both unfortunately
