Hales Machinery optic plates
I’ve got a couple Romulus and I absolutely love them, but have had issues with the plates loosening after 500 to 1000 rounds. Really the only thing holding these back.
I had reached out to Andy from alpha and he sent their new plates, which seem great but fit terribly. They do not fit the posts at all. So much play. When torquing it down, it doesn’t sit flat due to the rubber rings they added on the bottom. Last range trip I could see the right side rising up.
So I reached back out to Andy and haven’t heard a thing, which is kinda disappointing but whatever. I didn’t buy these Romulus for the warranty or their customer service. I bought them because they have phenomenal bones. Are they the best gun ever stock? No, but they have a lot of potential and the bones feel like they’re on another level compared to other budget 2011s.
While looking for cheely magwells I stumbled upon Hales Machinery. To my surprise, of all the places out there, they have optic plates specifically for the Romulus. Only plates I’ve found elsewhere from alpha.
Received yesterday and the plate fits. It’s the best fitting plate I have by far. No wiggle. No shims.
Only challenge for some is these plates require an fps that doesn’t protrude over the frame. The upside to this is it removes the contact and vibrations of the fps to the plate. It really should have been designed this way. Having the fps contact the plates is a disaster, and likely one of the causes of the plates loosening.
I genuinely don’t understand how another company is making better fitting plates than the company that made the gun.
But, yeah, check out Hales and support a company making pretty solid stuff that may actually solve the problem.
