We (majority of the sub) thought escaping from Riboku’s trap (something even Ouki couldn’t) secure his place as a gg. Apparently Hara didn’t planned like this because that escape wasn’t impressive for Shin at all (it was for Mouten or Yoko Yoko). So what do you think for Shin’s mvp moment for this arc? Maybe killing Shibashou? idk
The more I read about IRL Riboku the more he amazes me. I know defending is easier than attacking but still the guy was holding Qin, Yan and Xiongnu all by himself and Qin defeated Zhao the minute he died. It’s kinda clear that he was the best general during the late warring states period (maybe Haku Ki i don’t know). But was there any generals that better than him in later periods? Is there any chinese history expert?
It’s not even a discussion post I just wanted to appreciate his greatness as a man he was. He was a LION bro. Since Ei sei is politically secured his position and we've been in wars period for a long time (naturally), we don't have political characters like him in the manga anymore. The parts with Ryo Fui were awesome to read. Maybe the most underrated character in the manga.
Hara added the plot of Ousen wanting to establish his own kingdom to the story very early on. But we know that in real history there is no recorded rebellion of Ousen (Wang Jian). Why do you think Hara added this story to Ousen's character, do you think he will change history in the future, will he forget about the kingdom idea (which I don't think would make sense) or will he conclude it in some other way. What are your thoughts
Most of the discussion about Shin is that he's going to be a great general, but he's not at the level of Ousen or Riboku. Let's leave them aside, is Shin at the level of Ouhon? If there is a general like Ousen at the head of the army, I might choose Shin as the vice general. Because if you have a good plan to leave Shin 1v1 with the enemy general, there is no one in Qin you can trust more than him except Moubu. But let's say Ousen is dead and you need a new commander-in-chief and your choices are Ouhon or Shin, who do you choose? I'm sure 8 out of 10 fans would say Ouhon. Physically, he is very close to Shin, if not at Shin's level, but we know that physical strength is not the main requirement to be the commander-in-chief (why Ousen is the commander-in-chief and Yotanwa is not) and in these areas Ouhon is clearly better. Unfortunately Hara has definitely failed Shin's great general development so far
You know, Ei Sei is almost portrayed as a devil in historical records. First of all, most of those records are from the Han Dynasty, so I think it's an exaggeration, but I think we can agree that Ei Sei is not a good person, or not as good as he's portrayed in the manga. Do you think Hara will take the character down that path? I think it would be very good for the story if he did, it would be a tragic but effective ending for Shin to see his childhood friend, the friend he dedicated his life to fulfill his dreams to become that kind of person. But do you think Hara would write such a sad ending? Or would he say that Ei Sei became like that after the conquest and I finished the manga with the conquest, so I didn't need to include this arc in the story?
I usually don't like the way Hara writes Riboku's achievements either, sometimes it feels like plot armor to me. But this time it was obvious from the beginning that Riboku was setting a trap, it didn't feel like it was made up at the last moment. I think the main problem is that Shin, who will probably become a great general by the end of this arc, is still falling into such simple traps. Shin is supposed to be a Duke Hyou type of general, and remember in the Coalition arc how Duke sensed Riboku's plan. I think Hara doesn't pay enough attention to Shin's abilities other than physical strength and it bothers me. It feels like Shin wouldn't be able to lead his own army if it wasn't for Karyo Ten, I understand that he wants to include Karyo Ten in the story, but he shouldn't do it this way (I don't like Karyo Ten's presence in the manga in general, but that's not the topic of the moment).
