Help on new cycling tank
Hi people, I appreciate this will have been asked a million times before, but every post i read hasnt made my situation completely clear so I figured i would ask here.
Im a complete newbie to this hobby, I have a new Juwel 120L tank and have been fishless cycling it for 2 weeks so far. I started off trying to cycle it with fish food, but I wasn't getting any Ammonia readings, so switched to Dr Timms liquid Ammonia. Since then ive now got around 4-8ppm Ammonia, its hard to tell on the kit but I feel like I could have gone too far with the Ammonia now even thought I dosed is less than what the Dr Timms bottle said?
My other concern is that ive yet to see any sign of Nitrite or Nitrate, my Ammonia levels are staying the same not dropping. Is this normal for 2 weeks in?
Some other info that might be useful..
- My tank stays around 27.5-28c
- I added Prime when first filling it up
- I have been adding two capfuls of Stability & Pristine each day
- I initially started with my filter outlet pointing more downward but my tank went extremely cloudy so I pointed it diagonally up and this cleared it up a bit but its still a little hazy
Another couple of questions I have are
Is it normal for my Aquarium decorations to grow fuzz on the top like shown in my picture? It looks to be around where my old fish food is
Is it normal to have a sort of oily rainbow film on the top of my water? My filter outlet is rippling the surface a bit
I really appreciate any input from people :)
