Random encounter idea: The frozen man.

I have an idea I want to explore as a GM in an upcoming seafaring adventure. Random encounter in roughly the Caribbean tropics, a life boat is spotted. They pull aboard a sun baked man barely clinging to life. If the party helps him he is eternally grateful, and willing to repay however he can. He claims though that he is cold, while it seems he is burning up.

At night one of the crew is found frozen to death in their hammock. Investigation will lead to the rescued man, who has sapped every ounce of warmth from the crewman to stay warm.

And…. That’s what I got. I’m not sure what to offer the players for resolution, an intended solution, or reward. What would you do with this idea.

7th sea pirate campaign

What I’m looking for is a little bit of discussion about running a pirate campaign. I am retrofitting Pirates of the Spanish Main to play a 7th Sea campaign, updating to SWADE.

Are there any rules in 50 Fathoms I should be looking at importing? Has anyone made or adapted SW to 7th Sea themselves, and how did that go. Any advice for a new GM on a seafaring campaign, things you found worked well, or should avoid?

Goal is for party to go from survival game, to treasure hunting, to pirate haven building, to international renown with a Pirate Brotherhood (Half Brotherhood of the Coast / half Pirates of the Caribbean Pirate Brethren 9 pieces of 8)
