Scammer Pretending to be Police

This is just a warning to others.

I got a call from a woman who claimed to be a NYPD detective. She was well spoken and had a good script to keep the conversation going. She gave me a police report number, badge number and last name.

She claimed to be from NYPD's 61 precinct and they arrested an individual who had credit cards and fake id's with my information. She also claimed to have electronic devices with the words "Ledger" on them. This was her only reference to crypto.

While on the phone I quickly looked up information on the 61 police precinct and asked for the address and phone number, both of which she provided quickly.

We talked for about 20 minutes about the arrest and what was found in the individuals home.

She never asked for personal information but stated that another person will be calling me back for more information in about 10 minutes because of the report she is about to file.

After we hung up, I called the 61st precinct and spoke to a detective who confirmed no detective with the last name of Abbott worked there and I was the 3rd person who called today.

Sure enough, about 20 minutes later a guy with a British Accent called stating to be from Ledger Support regarding a police report they received from NYPD. He wanted to help make sure my keys were safe.

I asked if he wanted my seed words to ensure my ledger was secure. He hung up very quickly as he knew I was on to him.

This is the second time the guy with the British accent tried to scam me out of crypto.

Stay safe people... Trust your gut, if something feels off, it usually is.
