Aiden - Minor notes after 10 days

Some small moans about my new Aiden, 10 days old and in the UK.

  1. Firmware updates from the delivered 1.1.7 to 1.5.9 took over a week and required intervention from Fellow support. Now resolved.

  2. My default coffee is one or two English Standard Tea Mugs with a splash of cold milk. This is about 255-260ml of brewed coffee. So I set my Instant Brew to Advanced 550ml. Between 450 and 500 the Aiden switches from 10ml increments to 50ml and from Green basket to Blue. It would suit me to be able to set 520ml or 525ml. I'd quite like the Pulse brew rather than the Batch brew for my two mugs though it probably makes no difference.

  3. I can get 1x2 and basket filters from Amazon. But in the UK shops the only filters available are 1x4. I've been using these for years for 2-6 mugs in a succession of DeLonghi filter machines. I can make 1x4 work in the blue basket but it's not perfect. Wishlist is a cone shaped batch basket for 1x4 filters as an alternative to the current blue basket.

  4. The machine display is rectangular but behind a circular porthole. Why? So some text gets cut off and it's hard to read. Now we're getting picky!

  5. The app really should mirror all the machine's controls. So for instance, it should be possible to modify the Instant Brew definition from the app.

More later!

Aiden - Cup size and measurements

UK, new Aiden owner. Set to Metric - Precise measurements.

Mildly puzzled by the units and basket decisions. Apparently Aiden cups are "Standard coffee cups 5 fl oz." which is 148ml. Different from the US cooking "Cup" which is 8 fl oz or 237ml. My English Mug of "Filter Americano with splash of cold milk" is about 260ml of coffee. My old, cheap DeLonghi filter machines were just right for 2 mugs just above the 4-6 cup marker. (Italian 125ml or 83ml coffee cups).

How did all the meanings of "Cup" get to be so different? And how are none of them a classic English Tea Mug? <grin>

Obviously I can set Instant Brew to Advanced Medium roast 500ml or 550ml for my two mugs. And then fill with water to the 600ml mark so it won't run out. What would be perfect would be is if I could set 525ml in the instant brew definition but it jumps from 500ml to 550ml. It would be even more perfect if the Aiden would let me use either basket and filter without nagging seeing as I'm right on the cusp where it advises switching from small to large basket.

Just had to get this off my chest. It's the kind of thing that crashes space craft and made the Hubble Space Telescope short sighted!
