Bulls offseason approach thus far

Curious where everyone stands on the Bulls' approach to free agency so far.

Overall, I don't mind the moves. Just adding talent in the door on short term deals that can help the young guys develop, as well as raising our floor enough to not be in the bottom 3.

That said, the big talking point among Bulls writers (Will Gottleib, Ricky o Donnell, even Sam Vecenie at The Athletic) has been the opportunity cost.

Coming into the offseason, we had the biggest cap space, and there was a lot of discussion about using that space as an asset- taking on unwanted contracts in exchange for draft compensation. So far, we haven't really seen that materialize.

To be fair, no team has attached a first-round pick to dump salary yet, so it's not like we have already missed out on an obvious opportunity. The market may simply not have developed the way people expected.

But by using a chunk of that cap space in free agency, are we potentially giving up the chance to be the team that facilitates one of those deals if they eventually arise? Or is that concern overstated because the market for true salary dumps with premium draft assets (mostly just firsts) just isn't there anymore under the new CBA?

I'm interested in how everyone views that tradeoff.

That said, I don't think there's a fanbase in the league that likes to argue with each other more than us lmao

[Julia Poe] Bryson Graham made the first changes to the Bulls front office Tuesday, according to multiple sources, by releasing several staffers, including Josh Malone, who as Windy City Bulls general manager oversaw the franchise’s G League affiliate.

Graham made the first tweak to the Bulls front office Tuesday, according to multiple sources, by releasing Windy City Bulls general manager Josh Malone, with more changes and additions potentially on the horizon as he evaluates his existing staff.

Graham is expected to continue tweaking the front office in the coming weeks, a process that could include hiring additional scouts and other support staff. The Bulls have not signaled whether they plan to continue with the structure of a general manager (previously Eversley) directly under the executive VP with a support staff of assistant GMs.
