Found this on the side of the road just in front of my rural driveway when I came come this morning. Nightjar?
It really caught my attention, ruffling away in the wind on the shoulder of our county road, wings spread out and the white spots on the tail flashing. It wasn't there when I left at 6:15, but it was when I arrived home after my morning route (school bus driver).
I wish I could have kept a few feathers, but I know it's illegal. So, I buried it in a little cairn halfway down the ditch I found it next to.
Such a beautiful and remarkably light little thing. Sad to see, obviously, but I'm glad I was able to see it and send it off.
