I have been picking away at this with a composite pencil and hoping I might have something cool but it just doesn't seem to be resolving into..anything? Do you think this is even a coin?

I have been gently cleaning this metal encrusted thing that I thought would resolve itself into a coin. I cant figure out if there is some kind of pattern there or if I am seeing things. I'm going to try the metal detecting thread too. Thanks ahead of time for any guesses.
