• Budget: \~$1000CAD max, ideally around $600

• ⁠Country: Canada

• ⁠Condition: New

• ⁠Type of Camera: Anything but film really, I’m open to learning more complex camera skills but I don’t NEED a fancy camera

• ⁠Intended use: Vacation camera, I backpack South America and Europe a couple times a year and I’m very fond of photography. No video needed, I just use my phone for that.

• ⁠If photography; what style: Wildlife and landscapes mainly, birds in flight, mountain ranges. also close ups of far away details.

• ⁠If video what style: N/A

• ⁠What features do you absolutely need: Great zoom, ideally in the base camera. My current one has a great 40x optical zoom and I love a good close up distance shot.

• What features do you want to have: I would love to be able to buy more lenses and swap them out. I’ve never had that before, but it is not necessarily a dealbreaker.

• ⁠Portability: Small bag for lense storage, but I want to be able to grab camera with lense sling it over my shoulder and walk out of my hostel in Chile.

• ⁠Cameras you're considering: Honestly I’m overwhelmed with options. I’ve heard good things about the Canon R 50 (?) and it sounds like something I’m looking for.

• ⁠Cameras you already have: my beloved Nikon Coolpix B500, it was a gift and it’s nothing fancy just a good camera with a good zoom that I can use for my holiday shots.

• ⁠Notes: To reiterate the main points, I want a camera that is an upgrade from my Coolpix, but I don’t plan on making this a career, and I don’t plan on editing for hours. I want to be able to learn with it, put the sd card in my iPhone adapter, and edit on my phone on a plane. I’m a hobbyist traveler.
I’m upgrading because my Coolpix has been repaired once and needs it again, I decided I just want to get better instead of staying with the simple beauty.

Any advice is appreciated, even if it’s critical of my lack of specifics. Thank you in advance community.
