Tonight (10/9) - 7pm-Library Cafe & Bar (an experiment)

I'm going to be at the Library Cafe & Bar tonight 7-8:30 pm. For all you students who are looking for a live human interaction, you're welcome to join me for as much of that time as you like. This is my response to the posts I see here from students who are far from home and working on building new connections. Maybe this is something that can make it easier for at least one day? I'm willing to give it a night and see if anyone shows up.

I'm a grown-up (55) woman, I work at the UW (not a professor), I think I'm easy to talk with. I have a handy vocabulary of cuss words that pepper my conversations, but not for name-calling. I'm white, married to a man, I have trans and queer family members. Our daughter graduated in 2025. I'm from Madison.

I'm not picking up everyone's tab, but please don't let money prevent you from coming. I can afford a few apps and beverages. I have shoulder-length brown curly hair, red reading glasses, big-ish nose, and how many other older ladies are gonna be in that bar on a Friday night anyway? You should be able to find me. If you're unsure, ask for Jiffer. If no one's there I'll probably be reading or doing crafty shit. Feel free to bring any socializing tools you want to share (games? origami? surprise me.) Maybe you'll meet me, maybe you'll meet each other?

We'll see if this is valuable to anyone, or if I'm going to have a quiet night at the bar :) Either way is a win to me.
