After 5 years it's come to this.
I've been a massive fan of Descript and have edited hundreds of podcasts on the platform...but today I decided to pause for 2 months. The competition is becoming more capable and Descript is becoming less reliable. I feel a sense of guilt and loss...as I've loved working with the team but can't justify the expense of retaining this and other apps; when I only went to the other apps as Descript became less stable.
I've argued for ages about the quality of transcriptions, and formatting of those. All to no avail. The new credits sytem means that I'm watching my balance instead of my editing timeline.
Sorry u/gabe and team...but today as I tried to generate an avatar and was told there was an image error, and the voice stock of British male voices was so limited,...I had to pay for another platform to do the work; and I just can't justify having duplication in the tech stack.
I've paused for 60 days in the hope that by then Descript will be back to it's former glory.
ps. I think the issue is the promise of underlord has not been fulfilled; and it's application has overshadowed the great 'text to video' edit of the earlier versions.
