Jokey title just to share some crazy stats. From early on the suns have started the year well and then completely fallen away. With this year as bad as any.

A squiz at afl tables and this is some of what’s happened.

2014-
Start the year 7 and 2. Lose 4 of the next 5, end 10 and 12 and miss finals

2016-
Start 3-0. Lose the next 10. End 6 and 14

2018-
Win the first two. Lose 13 of the next 14. End 4 and 18

2019-
Win 3 of the first 4. Lose every game for the rest of the year and finish last

2020-
Win 3 of the first 4. Win 1 of the next 10. Finish 5-11 with a draw

2021-
Start the year with 3 wins and 4 losses. In reasonable position to maybe make finals. Lose 6 of the next 7. Finish with 6 wins 15 losses.

2024-
7 and 5 and firmly in the 8 halfway through the year. Lose 6 of the next 9 to fall out of the 8.

2025-
8 and 2 after 10 weeks. Top 2. Have two separate runs of 3 losses in a row. Scrape into the 8th place

2026-
Start the year with 3 wins and then be 7 and 3 after round 11. Lose the next 9 games. From top 4 contender to bottom 4 contender

Some years more minor than others. But it’s a wild patter that’s happened almost every year since their initial cellar dweller times

Now we have to deal with the media bullshit AGAIN.

Now we all look like homophobes.

Now the coach has his words analyzed based on what response he makes to something he shouldn’t have to talk about.

Now the club has to deal with dumb distractions.

And to what end. It didn’t help the team. I’d argue it inspired our opposition.

Whatever reasoning you may have had to do it in the first place last year, maybe it was the dumb schoolyard “he snitched” thing, maybe it was because you thought he must’ve done something bad to “annoy rankine into saying it”. Now that a year has passed and everyone condemned all of us for it last year, and called us homophobes, to do it again is so embarrassing.

I know it’s a minority, and being there compared to hearing it on tv I know it sounded worse on air. But regardless of it being 50% of the crowd or 5% of the crowd. Now we all have to deal with the fallout of it.
