Project R.E.D. may be Project D.O.A. after OmegaHorn

So looking at the viewer numbers and toy sales for Gavan Infinity… they’re not good. No better than what we’ve seen from Super Sentai in the past 6-8 years (ever since Bandai lost the toy license for Power Rangers). Even simulcasting it isn’t helping. Maybe because a lot of western Sentai fans are refusing to watch it out of protest instead of giving it a fair shot.

I have a feeling that if the next Project R.E.D. series, Kakusei Hunter OmegaHorn, doesn’t shake things up and turn things around, Project R.E.D. may last all of only two sagas.

After that? Who knows what’ll happen next?

My best bet is that Toei will try to start another tokusatsu franchise. Maybe they try to bring back B-Fighter, I dunno.

And if that fails, I think they'll finally bring back Super Sentai as their Hail Mary, similarly to the leadup to how Kamen Rider was resurrected with Kuuga.

Only question is: how would they simulcast it without running afoul of Hasbro? Even if they just simulcast the new seasons onwards and none of the old ones, they’d eventually get to a point where they’d do crossover team-ups with previous teams for anniversaries.

Unless they take another page from Power Rangers… and reboot Super Sentai entirely!

If I were Toei, here's what I'd do:

Reboot Super Sentai; merchandise of pre-reboot teams would still be sold in Japan but said teams will not appear in the new continuity in any capacity.
Except for Gorenger. Kinda.

The new continuity would begin with a reimagined version of Gorenger with more modernized suits and the introduction of mecha, and maybe even a Sixth Ranger (Shirorenger? Mikanrenger? Ginrenger? Idk). It wouldn’t be reimagined versions of Tsuyoshi, Akira, Daita, Peggy, and Kenji, but rather entirely new characters taking the mantle of Akarenger, Aorenger, Kirenger, Momorenger, and Midorenger.

And from then on? Just do whatever brand-new sagas we wanna do.

We’d simulcast all these new series through YouTube for Western fans to enjoy (both a subtitled version, as well as a dubbed version for accessibility’s sake) and will also commission Bandai America to produce merchandise for Western fans for both the new Sentai and Kamen Rider. This way, Hasbro won’t get in the way.

That’s what I would do if I were in charge.

But until then, all that we know is that Project R.E.D. seemingly can’t find its footing in terms of viewers and merch sales. Maybe it’s because Kamen Rider has the lone wolf hero toy market cornered already? IDK. And if things don’t change with OmegaHorn, we may already be saying goodbye to these Records of Extraordinary Dimensions.

What’s a movie/show you’re surprised never got a full length parody in the magazine? Bonus points: what title should they have had?

I’m particularly surprised that the magazine never did a full length parody of Avatar. Closest they gave us was Sergio Aragones' "A Mad Look at Avatar".

I’m not sure what they would’ve called it, though. If they ever did the second one (which they didn’t, because the magazine is 90% reprints now), I think "Avatired: The Way Watered-Down" would’ve been a good one.

Similarly I'm surprised they never did a full spoof of any of the Transformers movies. "Trashformers" was right there as the perfect title. Same for the Pirates of the Caribbean films (“At World’s End” would’ve definitely been spoofed as “At Rope’s End”)

As for TV shows, there are tons we never got. Dr. Phil (or “Dr. Phool” as I would’ve called it) they surprisingly didn’t touch, nor did they do America’s Got Talent (which I’d have called “America Got Tasteless”), The Office (“The Offcolor”), Supernatural (“SuperIrrational”) and How I Met Your Mother (okay, I have no idea what I’d call a spoof of that one)

What’s a missed opportunity for a joke that the Nostalgia Critic could have used in a review?

I remember Doug saying in his first Top 11 Fuckups video that because he accidentally referred to a forklift as a bulldozer in his review of Barb Wire (during the scene where Barb commandeers said forklift), he missed an opportunity to make a joke where he referenced the memorable "He tried to kill me with a forklift!" song from Mystery Science Theater 3000.

Which makes me ask… what are some other missed opportunities for jokes that he could’ve done in other reviews?

I got one: in The Haunting 1999, right after the line “I hope it burns in Hell like that black, bloated Beethoven bitch-bucket at the end!", he could’ve followed up with…
"And fittingly enough, I don't think there's any better way to sum up this shitty-ass remake than this line from the original film itself!"
And then plays a clip of Luke in the original, saying the line
"It oughta be burned down… and the ground sowed with salt."

Now granted he eventually did use that clip for his review of Epic Movie, but I think it would’ve been PERFECT to use in his review of The Haunting 1999.
