Linksys Velop child node stuck on solid red after factory reset (used node, existing network working fine)
Hi everyone,
I bought two different used Linksys Velop child nodes (from two separate eBay sellers) to expand my existing working Velop mesh network. Both behave exactly the same: after factory reset they stay solid red and won’t join the network.
• Models: Parent: [WHW03 V2], Child nodes: WHW03 and WHW03V2]
• Main parent node and the rest of the network are working perfectly with full internet.
• These are additional child nodes only.
• I’ve tried every common fix multiple times on both units. I’m hesitant to believe both are faulty since they came from different buyers.
Steps I’ve tried:
• Multiple factory resets on both nodes (held reset button 10–20+ seconds until red pulse, waited full reboot each time)
• Power cycled the nodes, modem, and whole system multiple times
• Placed each child node in the same room right next to the parent
• Tried adding them via the Linksys app (“Add a node”)
• 5-press quick pairing method on the parent node
• Plugged each one directly into the parent node with Ethernet (wired backhaul)
• Different power outlets, waited 5+ minutes after every change
• Confirmed they sometimes reach solid purple/blue briefly but always end up solid red
The nodes never join the network. Since these are used units, the resets should have cleared any previous settings.
Has anyone successfully added stubborn used Velop child nodes that do this? Any model-specific tips, advanced fixes, or things that finally worked beyond the standard troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated.
