App compatibility wiki

Hello DumberOS fans,

I've created a simple wiki where you can add and comment on compatible apps based on your experience.

This will be very helpful for new DumberOS users, as well as for us to know what should get fixed, and to make a list of potential additions to our curated app list in More Apps.

Update on Dumber Mini screen defects

Dear Dumber Mini Customers,

As you're likely aware, many of the phones we shipped have experienced various screen-related issues. We're in touch with our manufacturer to get to the root of the problem, but based on what we've learned so far, the issues fall into three categories:

  • The phone stops responding to touch after unlocking, but otherwise works fine. This seems to be the most common issue, and we've managed to implement a software fix for it. Your phone should prompt you to download and install the update within 2-3 days. You can also go to Settings -> System -> Updates and update manually.
  • The phone's screen goes black after unlocking, and only shutting down the phone returns it to a working state. Unfortunately, we don't currently have a fix for this issue, so we've been replacing all phones affected by it. If your phone is exhibiting this behavior, please get in touch with us for a replacement. Once the dust settles, we'll work on repairing the affected phones, either by replacing the screens or through software fixes, and resell them as refurbished units.
  • Other screen issues. Examples include the screen going black after unlocking but recovering after another lock/unlock cycle, or the touchscreen suddenly becoming unresponsive while the phone is already in use. These issues seem to be far less common. If your phone is experiencing one of these problems, or another issue not described above, please get in touch with us.

We've been working hard to keep up with customer support over the past few weeks, but it's possible that we've missed your email or failed to follow up. If you've been waiting for a reply from us for more than a few days, please don't hesitate to remind us about your issue. We apologize if you've been left waiting.

Kind Regards,

Nick & Michal - the Dumber Mini Team

Dumber Mini shipping update

Hello DumberOS fans,

We've already emailed all batch 1 customers, but I'll post here so that the info goes out in public.

The pallet with 1000 of our phones arrived in our UK warehouse on July 1st. We were hoping to start shipping immediately, but it took a few days to get everything ready, and the first phones were sent out on Monday. We started with smaller quantities, but starting from Wednesday, we'll be shipping 100 phones per day. This means we should complete shipping batch 1 by July 17th.

If you've ordered through our partner, Romobil.no, then your phone is right now on the way their headquarters near Oslo as part of a larger package, from where it will be sent out individually.

Please note that shipments to Australia are temporarily on hold until we can ensure carrier compatibility. We are terribly sorry for the inconvenience, and doing everything in our power to make our phones work with Australian telcos. If you have ordered our phone to Australia, we will get in touch separately and keep you updated.

Updated shipping dates for 1st batch of Dumber Minis

Hi everyone,

We have already sent an email to everyone who has ordered a phone in the first batch, but I'm posting here in case anyone missed it and just to make the information public.

There have been some delays at the factory, and they currently estimate that they can ship the phones to our warehouse before June 18th. To account for shipping, customs clearance, and warehouse processing, we think it's safe to hope that we can start shipping individual phones on July 2nd. As we'll have almost 1000 packages to ship, this might take up to two weeks. Orders will be processed chronologically, and the first order is #2012, so you estimate your position in the queue.

I realize the shipping estimate I posted a couple of weeks ago was overly optimistic, apologies for that. We'll keep everyone updated as soon as we have more information.

Please get in touch at support@dumbermini.com if you have any requests regarding your order, such as an address change.

First Batch of Dumber Minis is sold out!

Hello DumberOS fans,

A quick update on current availability. Our first shipment of Dumber Minis, coming in June, will consist of 1000 units. These are now sold out. We will be making a subsequent order for 3000 units within a month or two, out of which 1500 will be made for the North American market, and 1500 for the rest of the world. We hope these will ship at the beginning of December, 2026.

Preorders for the December batch are now open for both phone variants!

Preorders for the US and Canada-compatible Dumber Mini are now open

Good news for our US and Canadian fans - we have just started preorders for the North American version of Dumber Mini!

We're planning to have 3000 phones manufactured by the end of November, and half of these will be the North American model. From our initial assessment, the phones should be compatible with T-Mobile in the US. Information on Canadian carriers will be added as soon as we have prototype units that we can test.

Update regarding support for Norwegian BankID and Vipps.

BankID has recently introduced a new authentication method by scanning a physical ID (photo and NFC). Initial tests indicate that this doesn't work on the Dumber Mini. We're investigating whether this is something we can fix, and we'll also be in touch with the BankID team.

On the other hand, Vipps works totally fine now, including tap-to-pay on the Dumber Mini. However, it has had a difficult history with degoogled phones, so there are no guarantees here.

There is growing political pressure to get these two apps to properly support degoogled phones, so hopefully things will improve in the future.

All Dumber Mini preorders expected to ship by mid-June

Hi DumberOS fans,

I'm happy to let you know that we'll receive our first batch of 1000 phones quite a bit earlier than planned. Our initial estimate was very conservative to account for possible delays, but as of now everything seems to be moving ahead of schedule - we've been told the shipment should leave China by the end of May.

Of course, nothing is certain until the phones actually arrive at our UK warehouse, so we'll keep you updated if anything changes.

We still have about 400 phones left to sell from the incoming batch, so if you are thinking about preordering, it is safe to do so within the next few weeks. Once we run out, we'll be making another order for 3000 phones, half of which will be destined for the North American market. These are estimated to be ready by the end of November.

Dumber Mini first unboxing

I just received a couple of our prototypes with full packaging, and I couldn't wait to share a short clip :)

Here are some sample photos I took today. The last one was taken with the front camera.

Personally I'm happy with the camera and I use it to snap family pictures, it's noticeably better than the Doov R77 pro. One thing that I don't like is that if there is a lot of blue sky in the frame, then the photo will have a dark-blue tint, which you can see in a couple of the pictures. Second is that unfortunately there is no orientation sensor, so if you take landscape photos, then you have to rotate them manually. We're looking into some kind of neural-net classifier to do this automatically.
