Any interest in starting a film club?

Hello,

(Originally posted this in the general Connecticut subreddit, but figured I should make a post here as well since I am currently living in Fairfield)

I am a cinephile currently living in Fairfield who does not have many friends in the area who I can talk with about movies and was wondering if there are people who would be interested in potentially starting some kind of film club.

I figure it could be something where people could organize meetups where people get together to see a movie that's playing in theaters and then maybe have some time to discuss it afterwards. It might also be fun to possibly do a book club-esque thing where people could pick an old movie (or just something that is available on home video/streaming/digital) and then, after a month where people have time to watch and think about it, we can then convene somewhere (either physically or digitally) to discuss it.

In any event, figured I'd just make a post here to see if there is any interest. If there is, I was thinking I might take some time to set up a Discord channel that people could join and then we could start trying to do some stuff on there (though if people know of other methods that may be better to try and organize something like this, I am open to suggestions).

Also if there are any film clubs that already exist in or around Fairfield along these lines, please let me know. I have tried to look for stuff but haven't found much.

Modern novels that deal with masculinity

Hello everyone. Was wondering if anyone had good novels that deal with themes related to masculinity. Feels like most of the books that I’ve read about men and masculinity are classics or things that are over 10 years old and think it would be interesting to explore how these ideas are being explored in more contemporary literature.

Am not necessarily just looking for novels written by male authors, though the type of book I am looking for should obviously be about male characters and try to explore male perspectives. Also I guess I am most interested in books that explore masculinity within contemporary society, but if there are recent historical/fantasy/science fiction novels that explore masculinity that people think are good, those recommendations are welcome as well.

Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to reply.

29M Looking for social activities

Hello! I recently moved here and am realizing that I’m at a bit of a loss in terms of what I can do around here to socialize, so I figured I’d make a post to see if anyone has any suggestions.

I’m a bit of a nerdy guy who has had luck in the past connecting with people at book clubs/film discussion groups so if anyone knows of anything good around here along those lines I would certainly love to know.

Definitely open to other things as well. I also have an interest in anything related to doing artsy/creative stuff or languages (have studied Japanese for years and also have an interest in German, French, Korean, and Mandarin).

I’m also not against anything physical, I personally enjoy going on hikes, but never been really able to get into sports, even casually.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions people may have.
