APD and the 'Hard of Hearing' label

Hi admin here! I have severe hearing loss and APD, and am also active in my local Deaf community. I have seen a few posts now of people with APD questioning if they can use the 'hard of hearing' label. It is of my opinion that if you are explaining a legitimate functional limitation you can use the label, but please be conscious that some other members of the Deaf community do not hold this opinion.

Please also do be aware of the concept of cultural appropriation 'Cultural appropriation is an adoption of an element or elements of culture or identity by members of another culture or identity in a manner perceived as inappropriate or unacknowledged'

If you are aware of both of these facts, and feel like hard of hearing can help you with explaining your limitation to people who may not be aware of APD but are aware of 'hard of hearing' as a concept, I see no issue.

Any other Quakers attending?

Grad student here, I'm also a Quaker, is anyone else attending also a Quaker? I wanted to get to know others if there are any on campus. I'm feeling very lonely in my faith, and have been trying to re establish community in Sac since I just moved from the east.

USA to Aus

Hi all,
I'm 23F, and recently graduated with multiple bachelors degrees in Public Health, Philosophy, Religious Studies. I'm attempting to move to Brisbane and have friends offering me housing there. The whole process has me a bit overwhelmed, anyone know any good first steps? I have a heavy research background and work experience in the health field. Would a consult with a migration agent be advisable at this point?

Earlier today I was followed by a man and backed into a corner in NE. I am so tired of all the catcalling, stalking, and random acts of harassment I have experienced here as a woman. I have lived here for about four years, I love DC all things considered but I'm just tired of having to experience random men following me, hitting on me, etc. Are other women in dc facing similar levels of harassment?
