Cruel Prince, should I read on?

I'm trying it out because of the hype, but the prologue has me discouraged and thinking it isn't for me...I hate contemporary fantasy stories and didn't realize going into this one that it was written within that genre. Will I hate it anyways, or should I just hold out a bit? I know enough that a Faerie court is involved which makes me think it would be my vibe of book...

[MS] landlord claims i'm destroying and neglecting the property because my housekeeping isn't liked hood mom's.

EDIT: isn't like his mom's**

i've lived here with my husband and 3 kids for 2 years. we rented originally from an older lady, then b her son took over. we reported a leak in the shower (30+ years old), he came to see it. afterwards, he said insurance would come view the leak and we needed to clean the house so he wouldn't lose insurance due to neglect. i asked for clarification of specific things he'd like me to do to prepare. his reply was "absolutely not, it may be a difference in age or culture but if you look at my moms house it's a huge difference from trailer. that house is a huge mess and that house is being horribly neglected." i apologized and asked him to tell me what we needed to do to bring it up to his satisfaction. he repeated that we needed it cleaned from top to bottom. i called my husband sobbing. he reached out to the landlord and told him not to speak to me again and only contact him. the landlord didn't apologize for insulting my housekeeping or upsetting me with his rough attitude, but instead went in on my husband for having a messy house. mind you, we have a toddler and two other younger kids that live in the house. we do have toys stored in the living room and in the yard (put in a toy bin outside) along with normal clutter of papers, trinkets. etc. but this to be is a house being lived in. he's claiming we're destroying the property with our mess. i haven't cleaned the house at all aside from putting tots back in storage from the porch since hoods visit. does anything in these photos look damaging? am i contributing in some way to the destruction of his investment?

UPDATE:
my landlord is coming over tonight to replace our sink (there's a crack in it, it's porcelain.) landlord text me yesterday saying he saw me sweeping the porches and moving my son's toy box off the grass and said it looked much better. (all this has been through text, so i do have documentation. thanks for the idea to print and screenshot!) my husband plans to tell him to put his concerns inside and outside the house in writing. i'm still not understanding what moving things off porches did to repair the "damage i've been causing", but if it makes the landlord back off, i'm all for it. we plan to see if he expects more with lawn care like weeding and power washing, and plan to get it in writing if he does or does not. i think what it comes down to is communication. we've known him and respect him enough that if he were to have come to us and told us specifically what he'd like us to change, it would've been done in a. heartbeat. he's asked us to clean up outside before, and we have, but clearly not to his liking. so some written expectations would be nice to review, and so hopefully we'll have that today. thank you for all the kind words and encouragement/advice! love this community and the help it gives desperate renters like us ❤️
