Navigating intimacy with a seton

Hello! I’m a 26 year old female whose been dealing with this issue for over a year now. I had a seton finally placed a couple months ago.

It’s been somewhat ok physically, not a lot of pain. The biggest issue I have with it is how much it’s effecting my sex life.

I am a single women that is trying to date casually, and I just cannot avoid sex anymore. Women who have been or are in a similar position, I would very much appreciate some advice on how you’ve approached this.

Did you let your partner know before hand? Or not tell them and just hope they don’t notice? I’m just so unsure how to navigate it.

Over a month post seton placement

Hello! I’m a 25F that’s been dealing with my complex fistula for over a year now. I’ve had multiple L&Ds, a LIFT, and then finally a draining seton placed about a month ago.

So far I’ve actually enjoyed the seton. It almost never hurts and the main issue is just some itchiness here and there. I also don’t have to constantly be anxious about an abscess forming, which has helped my mental state immensely.

BUT, the past few days it’s been hurting quite a bit. The sensation almost feels similar to when I would start developing an abscess, so of course I’m terrified. I am still having draining, so I’m sure that’s not the case, but it is still making me feel scared.

People with setons, did you experience random bouts of pain here and there? Is this normal?

Itchy seton

Hi guys, I’m about post op day 9 of a seton placement. It’s definitely been uncomfortable so far but I’m experiencing a fun new symptom today which is a relentless itch 😀. I’m assuming this is just part of the healing process, but could any seton-havers share if you experienced this and if so for how long? And any ways to lessen the itch?

I’m going on a road trip today with my mom and it just sucks that I’m gonna have an itchy ass the whole time. Ugh.

Draining Seton Advice

Hello all! I had a draining seton placed 6 days ago and I’m wondering if anyone who’s had or has one could share their experience with pain/discomfort during the healing process?

The first 4 days weren’t too bad at all but the pain has gotten a bit worse the past couple days… like a sharp almost burning sort of pain. I have to go back to work tomorrow so I’m praying it starts easing up. Like I said any advice on managing a seton or just sharing your experience would be appreciated!!

Anyone dealing with this without bathtub access?

Hi guys, Kind of a random question but I’d like some advice. I’ve been dealing with a fistula for a year now and I’ve had 3 surgeries so far. I just had a seton placed yesterday, so it’s seeming like I’ll be dealing with this for a while.

I am moving out of my parent’s house in August. Living here I’ve had access to a bath tub the whole time I’ve had the fistula, and it’s been such a help for healing and relief as I’m sure you all know.

My problem is that I found a PERFECT house to move into, but it doesn’t have a bath tub, just a shower. Are any of you able to deal with this issue without access to a tub?

Hi guys, Been dealing with a complex fistula for almost a year now. One failed LIFT, and now about to get a draining seton placed in a couple weeks.

I requested a week off from my job (bartending), and I’m trying to figure out how to explain to my coworkers why I’ll be absent. Everyone is nosy working in a restaurant. I don’t want to lie but I obviously don’t want to say I’m getting rectal surgery.

What kinds of things did y’all tell coworkers or acquaintances when you were out for surgery?
