NGD: 2023 D-28

I've made posts this past week about the 000-15SM and the satin D-18 as I was considering both. I had sort of ruled out the D-28 as it was a little more than I wanted to spend, though it was actually cheaper than a new D-18, but this one just spoke to me. Played it the store for like an hour. Went back and forth with another D-18, and ended up leaving with this.

Played somewhat professionally for many years. Same with my parents and grandparents. I mostly played electric, and have never owned a nice acoustic. Havent played as much the last few years but I am trying to get back into it. I want this to continue to be a part of my life, and my children's lives.

The price was fair, but I wouldn't say I got an insane deal or anything. Just didnt want to pass up a lifetime guitar over an extra $100-$200 or so. Very happy!

So much contradictory info about satin/gloss...

I didn't see anything official on Martin's website either. I am looking for a standard series Martin, most likely the D-18. It's been my favorite so far. I actually like the satin finish, and it happens to be a little cheaper, but I am somewhat concerned over its longevity. I see some saying the satin is softer, thinner, or less durable. Others say it's the same as the gloss but just has the extra chemical in it to make it less shiny.

Ultimately I dont care if the guitar develops character over time. I dont care if it gets shiny when I strum, or gets a tiny ding here and there. At this point, I dont gig full time like I used to, and this thing may not even leave the house much. (I primarily played electric back in the day, would borrow a nice acoustic on the rare occasion I needed one....)

What is important to me is getting a nice "forever guitar" that can be handed down to my kids one day. Hell, I almost prefer if it has some shiny spots and dings from where "dad played it."

Any reason a satin finish wont stand the test of time assuming I take decent care of it? I am actually quite interested in these new 2025/2026 models with the "golden era" features.

How are the newer, more recently made 000-15SM?

Hey! In the market for my first Martin, and am curious about the build quality of the 000-15SM made in the last couple years vs ones that were made 10-20 years ago. (Actually, I am not exactly sure when the SM debuted?)

Anyways, if I went to, say, Guitar Center right now and played a new one, assuming it felt good and sounded good and spoke to me, would you buy a new one? Is there any "they just dont make em like they used to" thing to be aware of?

I'm almost 40, played somewhat professionally for a long time, but all electric. Never was much in to acoustics. Now, for a handful of reasons, I want a nice one, and I am kinda drawn to the mahogany 15 series.
