I live in Michigan and am experiencing a dispute with my apartment community over a past-due balance that I believe is incorrect. Earlier this year, the property management company filed for eviction, but I cured the full amount required under a consent judgment filed on February 3, 2026, within the timeframe specified. The case was dismissed on February 12, 2026.

The property's ledger was not properly reconciled afterward, leading to late fees accruing on a balance I do not believe I owe. Property management staff, including a former manager, have continued to argue that there is a remaining balance. Despite my continued on-time rent payments, the issue remains unresolved as communication with the current management seems ineffective.

Recently, a leasing consultant warned me about possible legal action due to the alleged balance. I have furnished documents like the consent judgment, notice of dismissal, and payment receipts proving the judgment was cured and payments were timely made. Still, I receive messages claiming the full balance is due.

Should I continue disputing this incorrect balance before making any further rent payments? What actions should I take to resolve this situation appropriately and prevent any wrongful legal action from occurring?
