Melodee 0.11 is released: New Synth Drop!
Hey all, it's me again. One of the folks buying the shovels in the gold rush. I've been busy with my own thing same as anyone. Anyways without further ado,
The big one: CZ-1
A new engine that plays native Casio CZ-1 tones: the real 144-byte tone data, not an approximation built from ADSR knobs.
- Two lines, each with its own 8-step pitch, timbre (DCW) and volume (DCA) envelopes
- The CZ waveforms and windows, ring and noise modulation, detune, vibrato, key follow, line levels and velocity (over MIDI)
- All 64 CZ-1 factory presets, A-1 BRASS 1 to H-8 TYPHOON SOUND, in the preset list and in banks A–D
- 8 banks × 16 tones stored on the device; import and export .syx tones and banks in the web editor
- Every tone parameter editable on the device: 38 pages plus a tools page (name, copy line 1↔2, compare). Values that do nothing for the current tone are greyed out, so you can tell why a knob seems dead (line 2 while you're in LINE1, envelope steps after END, vibrato with no depth)
- Do consider using the SELECT knob to scroll through the pages. Your EDIT button will thank you.
- CZ SysEx over MIDI, so CZ editors and librarians can send and request tones
The synthesis follows Devin Acker's uPD933 model from MAME. It hasn't been compared against a real CZ-1 yet, so if you own one and try it, I'd love to hear how close it gets.
Also in 0.11
- PHASE keeps its six presets and gains LINK/SPLIT with separate DCO, DCW and DCA envelopes
- Installer: "Return to official V15" can skip the backup when your firmware can't export one
- Removed: the SAMPLE, GRAIN and SLICE engines and the custom drum kit (DRUM is the 808 now) because I'm going to replace those with other synth simulations and samples take too much room, we are messing with a toy and it can only take so much, lol.
Upgrading from 0.10: projects, templates, settings and user presets carry over. Anything that used SAMPLE, GRAIN or SLICE needs a new sound; the custom drum kit plays as the 808.
Install: plug the FM-1 in by USB, open the web installer in Chrome or Edge and press Install. It backs everything up first, and "Return to official V15" takes you back to the stock firmware any time.
