Wishbone Kitchen having 3.5 bites of steak and 1/2 a zucchini for dinner

She just wants to be sure we know about it!

Molly Baz is sad she can’t call things “crack sauce” anymore

And yet she still managed to come up with an annoying af name somehow while also still making the crack joke.

Who wore it better? Hailee Catalano and Justine Snacks both post Kraft Mac & Cheese ads on the same day

Keeping the conversation going about influencers. Who’s good, who’s bad, and why?

Sohla has also posted a couple of Kraft ads recently, so I guess they’re throwing out the big bucks for this campaign.

Justine Snacks putting half her recipes behind a paywall

Of the 2-3 recipes she shares per week, one will now be for paying audience only. Those who pay will also no longer be tormented by ads on her site. She’s always said she wants her recipes to be free. At the same time, I understand this is a job and people have to make money. She kind of hemmed herself in by so loudly and proudly sharing her earlier stance on free recipes. Let’s discuss!

Wishbone Kitchen fudges her credentials, claims 4 years as a “full-time, live-in private chef in the Hamptons,” but the timeline doesn’t add up

In March 2020 she got laid off from Condé Nast. Her posts from summer 2020 are in Nantucket, not the Hamptons, and they appear to be personal cooks for herself and her family. In late summer 2021 she filmed her viral DITL video in the Hamptons. In 2022 she stated publicly that content creation was now the majority of her income and that she was stepping away from private cheffing. So i can see maaaybe 1-2 full summers private cheffing. Why lie? This is all public info.

She also claims to have gone to pastry school in this video, which just a flat out lie and never happened.

In the age of Alison Roman’s noise cancelling headphones, everyone can do whatever the fuck they want (most annoying people on flights are drunk men, not her).

Wishbone Kitchen SWEARS she’s gonna cook again, posts a photo from 3 years ago… let’s see if it’s for a real client or for her friends/influencers

This girl won’t share a recipe to save her life, also knows that her old content was the only good-ish content

Rebecca Firkser (Bon App) snarking on commenters snarking on her, plus more “influencers vs. recipe developers” lore

Ali slagle’s recipes are just a protein with salt and pepper?

Not necessarily snark, but after the post the other day about recipe developers vs content creators, I did a little perusing through Ali’s recipes, and I have to say… I didn’t learn anything, nor was I inspired by any new or any exciting techniques or flavor combinations. There aren’t many full recipes on her insta, but these are the ones I did find after a not-so-deep dive.

Chicken thighs seasoned literally with only salt and pepper. Why does she put them back in the pan with the peas at the end? They’re not braising or like being crisped in the oven or anything, so she just… literally made salt and pepper chicken thighs and then placed them atop of peas in a pan, to then presumably be divided between plates… why?Seems like an unnecessary point of friction for someone who says she’s always keeping the home cook in mind.

Then these turkey smash burgers. What are we learning here? They’re literally only seasoned with salt and pepper as well. Is she teaching us the general concept of a smashburger as though we don’t know? Is the “innovation” adding jalapeños? Felt like even someone who’s never cooked before could do that all on their own.

And then this salmon situation. Seems to be only salt and pepper steamed (skin on, mind you - love that flab!!) over rice and topped with a pretty basic relish.

Where exactly are the rigorously tested recipes keeping the home cook in mind? Was it the cinnamon toast? 🫣

So I guess my question is: am I missing something here? What is she teaching us exactly? Or is that not why people go to her? Why do you all either like or dislike Ali?

Because right now this is all seaming pretty elementary, under seasoned, and rather uninspired as an outsider visiting her page for the first time.
What do you guys think?

Truly no shade as I think I must be missing something since I’m not familiar with the full body of her work. Fill me in! What do you love about it?
