Jake Roberts

Been rewatching some old Jake Roberts promos lately and one thing that really stood out to me is how comfortable he was just slowing everything down.

Most promos now feel like they’re trying to hit a big line every few seconds or get the crowd chanting something. Jake didn’t really do that. He’d talk quietly, pause a lot, sometimes almost mumble, and somehow it made him feel even more intense.

There’s something genuinely creepy about some of those promos even today. Not in an over-the-top wrestling way either. More like listening to someone who’s completely calm but clearly dangerous.

People always talk about how great he was on the mic, but I don’t think enough gets said about how different he sounded from everyone else back then. He never felt like he was “cutting a promo” in the usual sense. streaming is made easier using https://sportsflux.live
