Original vs Std foot shape Why is the Std wider at the bottom?

HI,

When comparing the foot shape measurements on runrepeat.com, I noticed the Altra FWD Via 2 is narrower than the Altra Experience Flow 3

Midsole width FWD Via 2 113.2mm Experience Flow 3 118.1 mm

Midsole Heel width FWD Via 2 92.6 mm Experience Flow 3 94.1 mm

Why is the Std fit wider at the bottom half of the shoe? Has anyone else noticed this? It is confusing because I have narrow heels and thought the Standard model was the one I should look for.

Experience Flow 2 feels a bit soft. How is the Paradigm 8?

I am average height and weight, but I notice that I feel that I sink into my Experience Flow 2s. I can feel the tread pushing back through the sole of the shoe. (I have PF and I can feelthe tread on trail runners and it makes my feet sore) I was transitioning from a Hoka Arahi 7 which has a much higher stack height, but that shoe felt like it had a firm sole and didn't feel squishy like the other Hokas. So, I would like a shoe with a wider toe box than the Hokas but firmer than the Flow 2. How does the Paradigm 8 compare? I don't think I am ready for a minimalist shoe just yet and need some shock absorption but don't want a shoe that is too soft.
