Thoughts on The Wrythe (SM5) in Carshalton for First-Time Buyers in their 20s?

Hi r/sutton,

We’re a couple in our 20s, currently living in SE5, first-time buyers, and are looking to get on the property ladder. We recently fell in love with an end-of-terrace house near the Wrythe, but we are a bit unsure about the area (the England flags specially).

The house itself seems lovely, has lots of potential, and will help us get off the insane inner london rental market.

We've seen the property twice and walked around Carshalton in general + tried commuting from work as well. Overall, it's a sensible decision that fits our budget. But we are still very unknown to the area because it wasn't in our initial list, but we were impressed by the first impressions, the ponds, pubs, and a villagy vibe is what we fell in love with.

I understand the northern part is not as nice as the ponds and the beeches, but that's the area we can afford right now. Keeping that in mind, we would love to get some views from the locals on the Wrythe area and Carshalton for young people looking to settle their roots.

Thanks

[FTB] Victorian House help!

Hi all! Long time lurker, first time poster here. Me and my partner recently got married and have been looking at some 2/3 bed Victorian houses in South London as our first home. After a long search, we finally fell in love with a lovely 2 bed end of terrace late victorian house. I understand to an extent that owing a victorian house is always going to be a challenge given they are literally 100 years old, but what are some things we should be genuinely worried about before making an offer?

Additionally, the house we currently like looks absolutely lovely, but its bedroom storage cupboard/space had a visibly concerning crack in the top corner. Structurally, the house looks great, but do you guys think this is potentially dangerous and is a big no-no, or is it worth putting down an offer do the structural survey and hope it comes out ok!?
