AI fatigue is killing motivation

I am about to start my MSc. I wish to specialize in computer vision, then pursue a PhD. I eventually want to work in industry. I was initially excited about this path. However, AI fatigue is killing my motivation.

Honestly, I don't have any hope for the future. It has been around four years since GPT-3.5 was introduced. AI is now proving major conjectures. It recently came close to proving Riemann's hypothesis, and dominated(not only defeated) the best competitive programmers in the world at AtCoder World Finals. I can't see a place for myself in the future because of AI.

I keep going because I feel like I don't have any other choice. I was genuinely excited about computer vision, robotics, and autonomous driving. But I have convinced myself that all my effort is in vain.

I wish to ask people in a similar situation, what makes you keep going? What are your plans for the future?

Does anyone else experience persistent brain fog/sleepiness like this?

For the past 5-6 years, I’ve felt physically fine after sleep, but my brain stays foggy, heavy, and sleepy, almost like strong sleep inertia, even after 8-10 hours. Before this, I had no issues waking up early or feeling mentally clear in the morning.

A 5-10 minute nap can almost completely clear it, almost like a reset, but I often can’t nap during the day since I don’t feel physically sleepy or have that typical sleep pressure. At night, I fall asleep very quickly without much effort.

My brain fog feels like my brain is being deprived of blood and oxygen. It sometimes gets better when I lie on my side. Sleep position also affects the severity of the fog. For example, I’ve noticed that my brain fog is much less severe when I fall asleep at my desk while studying.

Caffeine used to help a lot more than it does now, and I’ve had an irregular sleep schedule for years, which may have made things worse or more inconsistent. This started around COVID, so I’ve wondered if that period or lifestyle changes around then played a role.

I don't have any other health condition. I don't have sleep apnea, or similar conditions that may affect sleep quality. I have tried to use B12, iron and vitamin D supplements but they didn't help much.

Has anyone had something similar, and did you find a cause or solution?

Am I safe now?

I took gre at home 8 days ago(my first attempt). During the exam, I lost my Internet connection for 2-3 minutes due to a technical error(my cell phone heated too much and turned off hotspot automatically to protect the battery) and I informed the proctor about that.

A few hours after the exam, the empty cell in the score section turned to "Score not available". It is still the same since then.

I am increasingly concerned after seeing so many cancellations on Reddit. What I am concerned about is that since I only needed quant score, I quickly gave random answers to verbal questions, and also skipped the writing part.

Result: 167 quant, 142 verbal. What is the probability that I will be flagged?

Do CF LGMs use medications like Methylphenidate?

I know that many of them are autistic. They have a natural gift for higher intelligence.

However, my question is do you know if they use any kind of medication to improve their attention or similar?

If so, would you recommend using such things to get better at problem solving?
