How do you pace a windy parkrun without making a mess of it?

Belfast was doing that lovely sideways wind thing this morning, and i somehow went out like I was in shape. By 3k I was bargaining with myself beside a hedge.

Small drama, obviously.

For those of you running fairly exposed courses, do you back off early and save a bit, or just accept the splits are going to look daft? I’m mostly a hiker who turns up for the odd 10k when the weather’s not being rude, so pacing a flat 5k still feels weirdly easy to ruin.

Marathon plan apps when you are coming from 10ks

Working up to my first marathon after years of occasional 10ks and Mournes plodding, and the app bit has been messier than expected. tiny violin stuff, i know.

Runna got me doing actual sessions instead of just wandering out when Belfast looked less miserable, but the plan started feeling a bit pace-hungry once the long runs got past my normal Sunday comfort zone. Garmin suggested tidy sessions, though it kept treating pace like i was not also hauling tired legs up Cave Hill midweek.

I landed on Hiiro for this block because it is Apple Watch and iPhone based, and the RPE side suits me better than chasing pace in wind and rain. The chat bit has also saved me twice when work moved a long run, since it rebuilt the week without sticking hard days back to back.

Anyone else here ditched pace-led plans for effort-based ones, or am i just soft?
