Any AZ claims adjusters in here? Property Damage/Bodily Injury Claims Confusion

I’m hoping someone can give me some insight because I’m so lost, and my claims department isn’t helping. A couple of weeks ago I was in an accident with a semi that pulled in front of me on the freeway. He was at fault, and my car is likely totaled.

I opted to file a claim through my insurance instead of his because I understand it’s better to give your statement to your own company, they’ll fight for you, and it’s supposed to yield faster results for rental car scheduling and payouts. I asked her to contact the other driver’s insurance (Geico) because this payout should be their responsibility. I thought that would be done during this whole claims process, but it sounds like maybe they don’t reach out to the other driver’s insurance until after the claim through my insurance is closed…? I don’t know.

My passenger and I sought medical appointments afterwards to make sure we were okay. I advised my claims lady, and she told me that a second claims adjuster would be calling me because that would fall under my med pay coverage. Now, whenever I try asking this second lady any questions, she hasn’t cleared up the confusion and I leave the conversation feeling like an idiot.

My med pay coverage is $5,000, which won’t cover the bills. The remaining balance also won’t be fully covered by my health insurance. The remaining portion after the auto and health insurance pay is going to be over $4,000, which absolutely should be the responsibility of the at-fault driver. My med pay claims rep is saying that either I will have to pay it, or I have to call the other guy’s insurance to file a claim and provide a statement. So…does my insurance not forward along my remaining bill to Geico? Am I really going to have to call and now work with two companies on this claim and provide another statement of the accident? I just don’t want to get screwed over, which is why I started this process through my own insurance in the first place.

I’ve tried asking my initial claims rep about this and she just refers me back to the med pay claims rep. Does your own insurance not assist with bodily injury? What’s the correct process here?

Thanks for any insight you can give, I’m confused and stressed.

Do you think it’s totaled?

Damage from a commercial rig. It’s in the tow yard, waiting to be transported to the repair shop for an assessment. No airbags were deployed. Do you think it’s repairable or a total loss?
