Help figure out and date different flooring?

Hey guys! Happy 4th to those celebrating! We're spending it ripping apart our kitchen, and I'm trying to figure out wtf was going on here and would appreciate any help. Turns out there used to be a wall here (yellow line), which we did not expect. There's actually a piece of drywall still stuck in there, so perhaps the wall isn't that old? But the two flooring types appear (I think, could be wrong) to be older than widespread adoption of drywall. Two different types of flooring in each of the rooms. Red square is where a chimney used to be. Kitchen is an addition built off the back of the house sometime between 1879-1890, main house built 1876. Its very possible that the kitchen was originally built as the owner's cobbling shop, but by 1893 he died and the house was bought and used as a rental so likely no longer operated as that if it ever did at all. It's a one story, 20x15 ft addition.

Gray floor (last pic) is pine and strikes me as somewhat newer than dark floor (pics 3-5), which is narrower and also looks like it may be pine or maybe fir? This had something on top of it at one point, i can see felt padding on top of some of if (pic 6) and there are linoleum scraps that are the same as stuff I found dumped back in the woods (this would have been removed during the renovation in 1992).

Any clues on what I'm looking at here? We will rip up a little more plywood to the right when we take out the cabinets, but we prolly won't be going further to the left as that plywood is in good shape and can stay. Unfortunately we won't be able to refinish this floor due to damage and the fact that it's not even all the same flooring lol

Old rhododendron in trouble, is there anything to be done?

Hey guys! I have this very large, very old rhododendron in the back and I'm super concerned about it. Suddenly a week or so ago it started hanging much lower, like a foot or two lower. I checked out around the base today and it looks like it's hollowed out underneath it. I can see daylight coming through in pic 3. It seems pretty extensive and I'm scared there's no hope, but is there anything I can do for it? It's gotta be like 70+ years old and I don't want it to die on my watch lol

How did northerners react to/feel about segregationalist violence in the civil rights era?

Hi guys! I'm teaching US history and civil rights is def one of my weaker points. In preparing materials, I'm reading a lot about violence toward civil rights activists/workers/supporters in the south in the 50s and 60s, and I'm wondering how northerners felt about what was going on down there. Were they shocked/appalled by the stories, ambivalent, or supportive? Obv I know individual opinions will vary, but in general how were these events viewed?

I've asked my grandma, who was in her 20s and 30s then, but she doesn't remember. My parents are too young to really remember, my dad says he just saw it as "adults are crazy"; he was in middle school at the very end of it.

And I'm also wondering if I'm seeing it as more significant than it was viewed at the time, as I'm looking at events that happened years apart from each other in one sitting so the gravity might feel greater, while they'd have experienced them in real time.
