Pretty sure i blew it.
Ive been in the APS for two years after spending the first few years of my working life in hospitality. Mostly waitressing, kitchen hand stuff and a brief stint as a bar lead in a small restaurant bar. Ive done fine dinning, casual dinning, fast food, aged care and catering. I had to get a second job recently and got a casual position at a local pub that runs as an all hands on deck situation. When i took the position i told them the last place i worked had about 90 seats which is the largest restaurant ive worked at and that ive never worked in a pub or poured beer as we didn't have taps at the restaurant. This new place has 5 function rooms that hold 100+ people and can have anywhere from 100 - 400 people come through on a Saturday night like tonight. Basically i feel like i over shot it with my resume and was over confident because i was out of my depth. Running the food and clearing an all that was fine but the bar... I forgot how to make a gin and tonic ffs. I kept getting overwhelmed with the POS system and asking people where things were that were right in front of me and i felt like a complete idiot. I messed up a few beers as well and it just felt bad. Only one coworker in the bar was helping me as well the rest just made me feel like an outsider, might've been all in my head but it didn't feel great either way. Huge knock to my confidence as ive always been proud of my hospitality skills. I work hard and i love the adrenaline of the rush and working with a team in the chaos and just getting it done. Thanks for reading i just needed somewhere to get that 6 hours off my chest.
