UPDATE: Our BCC tree damage story is on A Current Affair TONIGHT - and we’ve just hit 1,100 signatures!

A few weeks ago I posted about our battle with Brisbane City Council over a Council tree causing damage to our property, with no action being taken. The response from the community has been incredible.

Since then, we've heard from so many residents across Brisbane facing the exact same issue, trees posing safety risks or causing property damage, completely ignored by the BCC.

What started as our personal fight has grown into a push for real change to protect all Brisbane residents.

Tonight, A Current Affair is covering our story, we hope it helps shine a light on this issue and puts pressure on the BCC to act.

If you haven't signed our petition yet and this matters to you, please sign and share this post far and wide - let's keep the momentum going and show Brisbane City Council that residents are demanding action.

You can sign our petition at https://c.org/Tc7F8hSLwV Please remember to verify your signature for it to count and please skip the donation section, we are not asking for donations.

Thank you

We need your help. Please sign, share, and spread the word.

We understand this is a polarizing topic. There will be arguments to save the tree at all costs, we respect this view, but we also all rely on infrastructure that now stands where trees once stood — our homes, roads, shops, schools and more. Urban living has always required this balance, and we are simply asking that balance to be applied fairly.

There will also be arguments that the tree was there first so bad luck. We understand this point of view. We are asking for some compassion and understanding that those arguments don't help us today.

For 7 years we have been asking the Council to remove a tree that is causing serious, ongoing structural damage to our home. This is not just cosmetic. This is not our opinion. It is the conclusion of four independent experts, two engineers and two arborists, who have assessed the damage, identified the cause, and confirmed that tree removal is the only permanent solution.

Notably, one of those engineers and one of those arborists have both previously consulted for the Council. Their credibility and expertise are not in question, the Council has relied on their opinion before.

We also have the full support of our local Councillor, who has signed this petition alongside our community, and has been helping to try to get this tree removed.

We value trees deeply and have not arrived at this position lightly. We have exhausted every available option over seven years of persistent requests, and still no action has been taken.

Council regularly removes trees for new developments, driveways, and bus stops. We are asking why a tree causing serious structural damage to a family home does not meet the same threshold for action.

The Council's approved species list includes many beautiful trees that are genuinely suited to urban living, trees that can grow and thrive alongside our homes and infrastructure without destroying them. The Leopard tree is not one of them.

Please help us. Sign and share this petition and let Council know this matters to the community. By standing together, we hope this also sends a message that no one should have to fight for seven years to protect their property, and that better processes need to be in place so others don't face the same battle we have.
