Lawmakers OK proposal requiring bars, nightclubs to offer anti-drugging drink lids

“The legislation would mandate that establishments with liquor licenses provide removable drink covers to customers upon request. It does not require all drinks to come with lids, nor does it require establishments to have lids that fit all of its drinkware.”

“The proposal also allows establishments to charge customers for the drink covers, so long as it’s reasonable”

Providence Tops Zillow's Hottest Rental Markets for Summer 2026

“No. 1 – Providence: Providence is no stranger to the spotlight. Known as the “Creative Capital,” it ranked fourth on Zillow’s hottest for-sale markets list earlier this year, and that momentum has carried directly into rentals. Rents are up 5% year over year, and with just 12.9% of property managers offering concessions — the lowest share in the top 10 — renters find little room to negotiate. The typical rent is $2,154 a month, and renters need to earn about $86,000 a year to comfortably afford it.”

Sharp increase in emergency room visits tied to e-bikes and e-scooters

“We are seeing a really large rise in devastating brain injuries,” Ruest said. “This ranges from broken bones or fractures of the face or the skull, to bleeding in the brain and then very serious injuries to the brain itself.”

She said a major area of concern is children, who are ditching their traditional bikes and scooters and opting for electric ones — without proper helmets.
“Even if they are wearing helmets, the helmets they’re wearing are not strong enough,” Ruest said. “We’re seeing kids coming in unconscious, kids with very large areas of bleeding in their brain.”

“If children are going to be riding these, they need to be in a helmet that’s approved for motorcycles, ATVs or dirt bikes,” she said.
