Correct me if I’m wrong

I think we’re already struggling with figuring out what age to give children access to technology with the way it is evolving into such a huge part of every day life, but 7 years old?? Of course we don’t know the full story and how monitored his online activity is but the fact he has the instagram app, an account and access to the platform in general is insane to me. She stated in another comment that the account is only one she uses to post videos of him playing football but it doesn’t matter what the account is for, that kid can open up ig and see ANYTHING reels has some crazy stuff, almost as bad as TikTok which I wouldn’t be surprised if he already has. It’s just crazy to me that not only does he have the freedom to use the app unmonitored but is basically encouraged to, seeing as she downloaded the app and created the account. Her only defence or reasoning being ‘because he’s my child’ really frustrates me it’s such a cop out excuse. People constantly talk about the dangers of social media for ADULTS and I can say my free access to social media in my early teen years wasn’t healthy, so as young as seven really shocks me.
I don’t have any children so my perspective might not be as educated and like I said I understand it’s a whole new type of parenting with technology but wow seven years old and asking his mother about an instagram story post… am I crazy for having a problem with this?
